Great comparison!

I've been thinking that I need to build a launch team that can get the church started with enough momentum so that it can continue to grow for years to come. I've seen too many churches start with a bang and then "flame out" to keep with your analogy.

This is the exact analogy I've been using with our recent transitioning... There are stages to take-off as well. The initial stage is usually done wih a core that (statistically) breaks away at some point... then the shuttle fires it's own rockets to push it into space. I'm showing our people that right now we've shed the initial rockets and are now lighting our internal rockets... so funny how similar the illustrations are!!!

Either we're all really nerdy, or this really is a good analogy of church planting. =)
