Matt and I started running together today, which turned out to be a pretty taxing experience for me considering he was a regional running champ in high school. =( It's been a while for him too, however, so we ended up woozy and gasping by the second mile.
It was such a great analogy to our life in ministry though. We run harder and faster with someone else running with us. And if we have someone pushing us with encouragement and companionship, we can go greater distances.
Studying Paul's companions in Henry Blackaby's new book is opening my eyes to the value of having partners in ministry. Every pastor needs a Barnabas to encourage him. Every pastor needs a Priscilla and Aquilla to open up their home feed him once in a while. Every pastor needs a Tychicus, who will not only impart information to others, but also bring them an encouraging word. And every pastor needs a Timothy to whom he can entrust others.
