- If you're a producer (like me), you've got to find investors for your art. If you're an artist, you've probably got everything you need to create great projects in your basement. One of the big topics we're going to cover in Dream Year is being a producer vs. being an artist.
- If you're a new author, sending out free copies of your book might not the best way to promote it. Everyone sends out a free copy. There's got to be another way.

If you find a better way on the sending out a book deal, we'd love to know. :) No doubt there is over saturation. What once worked, quickly drops in impact over time. Always have to strive for new / innovative.
The primary reason many do it is to seed the market of ideas. You ship 100 books to those of influence and IF they read it and become a fan, they stimulate the viral engine. Keyword = IF.
Agree with Dale too BUT there are plenty of great books that never sell. You have to promote in some way. Too much clutter in the marketplace for good ideas that are silent. Ideas by themselves don't get shared unless they are backed with momentum. Thankfully momentum can be created.
