So I get this e-mail last week that made me feel really special. I was BEING INVITED to join John Maxwell and 50 other leaders at a round-table in Florida! Wow! And if I wanted, I could join John and a few others for a round of golf. Amazing. Honored. Floored.
So I walk into Brad's office: "Hey, did you get an invitation to join John Maxwell down in Florida in March?"
Brad: "Huh-uh. No, why?"
Ben: "Oh (awkwardly), well... I got this invitation... and, well, just wondered if you did. (Stammer, stammer, more awkwardness, slink away)
So I go back to my computer and look further into it.
Oh crap.
There it is.
(thoroughly embarrassed)
Ben: "Hey Brad, remember that Maxwell invitation I told you about?"
Brad: "Yeah?"
Ben: "$2,500. Mass e-mail."
Brad: (spews Diet Coke all over the floor in laughter)
How embarrassing...

HAHAHAHAHAHA

But wait there's more...send your donation in today and you will also recieve this expensive set of authentic Japanese knives...

oh no bro... i didn't mean to knock the donation part. Equip does amazing stuff, and a lot of churches support them to this tune. I was only deprecating myself for assuming a position of honor. I'm constantly reminded to take the seat of dishonor so that I can be raised up... not the other way around. Humble yourself so you can be exalted.

But really Ben - I will undercut Kenyon and you can play golf with me for $500. For that deal though, no meal will be provided.

That is too funny. The personalized email monster strikes again. It amazes me, at my church as an example, how we can send an email with copy from the lead pastor to our database with a personalized greeting and how many responses come back in where people think the pastor emailed them directly and them only. Obvious mass mail but many read it as if it were only to them. I guess that's good and bad. :) On the positive, unlike the Maxwell email, if someone responds they will get a REAL reply from our pastor.
