So custom-engraved Moleskines were all the rage, and then suddenly they stopped producing them. Just discovered why. Apparently, burning Moleskines with a laser creates highly toxic gases including phosgene and chlorine gas. The resulting hydrochloric acid corrodes everything it touches.

i recently got one of these, but the binding is falling apart...perhaps some of the toxicity leaked on my binding...stupid acid.

the one with all the gears and such...it was a gift, but i feel like i should stop using it for fear of it exploding... :)

I think it would be a custom design - a symbol that's important to me. But not sure I want the acid on my hands anymore. =) What about you Josh?

I'm not into the moleskin thing.
I like the idea, but I'm sure that if I bought one, it would only be used for a few days until I forgot about it. I have a hard time starting new habits.
...BUT if I was into moleskin notebooks, I would probably just get a plain one. I'm into simple.
