On the morning after the election, experts were able to clarify the principle that cost John McCain the election. The principle emerged out of chaos.
I'm convinced that every struggling church plant is ignorant of one principle that has yet to be clarified. It's too hard to see in the moment; it's buried in the chaos; but it's the reason behind the struggle.
There are two ways to clarify the principle:
- Quit and see it in retrospect.
- Invite an outsider to speak into it.
Unfortunately, most church planters go with #1 because it's too humiliating to get poked and prodded. And that's a shame.

Ben,
So on target; I've done #1 in the year 2000. This time, it's slow and intentional, small steps, mentors, coaching, advice, asking questions, and submission. It's working!
