We've got spiritual gift assessments coming out the wazoo. But half of our problem is knowing what we're not gifted to do. Most of us have gift disillusionment in some way or another, which makes it awkward for other people around us. Because when we're not self-aware, their only options are to 1) Struggle to be diplomatic, 2) Hurt your feelings, or 3) Lie to you, which only prolongs your deception. It's better to know what you're bad at before someone else has to tell you.

THe "self-esteem" movement has killed us. I think it is damaging to legitimate spiritual assesment and gift development. We act like there is something wrong with not being "perfect" at everything. The only option to learn your weaknesses is to go outside your comfort zone and commit semi-intentional acts of failure. This is healthy? Let's be honest, gifting is not "some ability" it is ability well beyond the average. And, true gifting or job placement is that place where the gifting, passion and calling connect.

For me - I know that I am a much better #2 leader than #1 - my gifts support that & I know that - its great to know what we do best so that we can save time & not do what we aren't good at!
