We stumbled upon Outdoor World here in Duluth last night... I've never seen anything like it. Was like walking into the pages of Field & Stream Magazine. Our fam's on the hunt for a canoe to do some weekend paddling up the 'hooch (as the locals like to call it). Incidentally, there's a Medieval Times in the same shopping complex, where you can double fist chicken parts for dinner while live knights joust each other in front of you. Apparently, Georgians like their faux experiences. =)

Canoeing up the 'hooch?
Before you get a canoe, you need to get a much more significant beer gut, invest in some wife-beater shirts, and knock your front two teeth out. And, while you're looking for a canoe, you had better invest in a pretty serious cooler that can float behind the canoe and hold a case of beer for your whole family (kids included) to enjoy on the way up the river. Otherwise, they're going to know you're a yankee.

Ben,
There is a mall with an Outdoor World and Medieval Times just on the other side of D.C. (between Annapolis and D.C.) They are great! My kids love to take the trip down there. Hope you are enjoying things in the Atlanta area.

I grew up in Springfield, MO home of the original Bass Pro shops. I remember when they only sold bait and tackle in the local Brown Derby stores (chain of liquor stores in Southwest MO owned by a relative of Bass Pro's founder).
The Mother Ship in Spfd, MO is quite the sight to behold. But having grown up there and been there about a bajillion times, my response is a roll of the eyes when I see another one "coming soon."
Like the one in Norfolk I pass on the way to the beach. Feels a bit out of place to my Ozark eyes.
Anywho, read your blog periodically and thought I'd comment since you were hooked
