I worked as an advertising writer and producer before going into ministry, so I love great branding. One test of a brand's strength is its ability to take different forms and still retain its unique identity. The symbol, the icon, can be played-with and still hold up. Here's a few of MTV's logo variations...
Speaking of great design... Tricia Morgan sent me this great website. It's Flash on a whole new level. Just watch the page for a few seconds...

Ben - I agree 100%. Do you know of any churches that have logos that are utilized in multiple ways like the MTV illustration?

i haven't, but it does take a pretty strong brand image to start with

That flash site is amazing! That took a lot of time and a lot of creativity.

MTV's?

Ben - Thanks, I haven't seen any either. I think that it would be great if a church could pull this off with a name / logo. I have thought about this also with Google logo that changes on particular days.

MTV being an exception, since it's a TLA and is very versatile, anything with a full name in it is not generally going to lend itself very well to that.
The graphic portion of Granger's (www.gccwired.com) logo could potentially work well, if done right.
The cross and flame, while well recognized, probably wouldn't do so well though :)
