Ben Saunders -- the modern-day explorer, who at 30 years old, is the youngest to ski alone to the north pole, closes his jaw-dropping speeches with a little tidbit that explains much of the Brit's drive.
He describes how he has a note taped to his mirror at home that was written to his parents by one of his elementary school teachers:
"Ben lacks sufficient impetus to achieve anything worthwhile."
I have to admit... not a week goes by when I don't hear similar voices from my past. All is forgiven, but for some reason, the phrase "You can't..." or "You're not good enough to..." stokes a fire within me that is stronger than the resistance of Everest or the frigid white-outs of the arctic.
God's put me through seasons of waiting that have burned-off the bad motives and purified my intentions. But I can't help but think God knew exactly what would propel me to attempt great things for him, in the power of his spirit.
