In his new book "When Leadership and Discipleship Collide," Bill Hybels talks about how Jesus violated leadership principles whenever opportunities for discipleship intersected them. Things like... sabotaging momentum, choosing unlikely team members, giving up his time to the least important people, etc.
Great to hear this from the leadership godfather because I've never felt that conventional leadership principles were a perfect match for the context of ministry. In my experience, I've never seen fruit or have been rewarded by following, say, Maxwell's principles. The greatest spiritual fruit in my ministry has come from chaos, crisis, ignorance and weakness.

Great points. I completely agree. It's a challenging 'dance' between the two. I'll have to check out the book...

I just finished this book a week or so ago...I completely agree! It has been one of those things that you just keep thinking about and let soak in!
