Leonard Sweet almost titled one of his books: "Forget the Vision thing." He eventually changed it to "Summoned to Lead" but I wish he hadn't. Not everybody gets a grand, sweeping direction from God
that compels us to lead like captains of an oceanliner... full speed ahead, ramming through icebergs and waves... throwing off passengers like ballasts when they question the ship's direction. No, some pastors are given sailing ships, where they're constantly raising and lowering the sails... trying to catch some wind and avoid any obstacles that could destroy their vessels. Only God knows where they'll end up... but when they do arrive, they'll be able to look back and see a divinely navigated wake. By the way, I read a great little book on the plane called Making Vision Stick, by Andy Stanley. [for those who are given grand, sweeping visions =]

Wonderful post and reminder! Thanks for the insight.

Great book...I should finish it up tomorrow. I think there's another book in the series that Bill Hybel's wrote...
