This blog has been a blessing and a curse. It's ushered me into meetings with my heroes in ministry; it's gotten me writing gigs I couldn't have gotten on my own; and it's scored me free Catalyst tickets, among other things. =)
But the curse of it is that it portrays an image of me that's not entirely accurate. A good friend recently reminded me that darkness hides from the light because it reveals the truth... but as believers, we are expose our darkness with the light of Christ.
So this week I'm going to post a series of confessions to expose some truth. I'm prepared for the ramifications, so hold on. Here's the first one to get the ball rolling...
Confession #1: I'm a much better Blogger than I am a Church Planter.
I communicate with more people on a daily basis than I do in a month of Sundays. It's funny to see how blogging effectiveness is interpreted in ministry.
Recently, someone was naming the speakers at a big ministry conference... and I was mistakenly listed among them! I'm often included on blog rolls with guys whose greeter teams are larger than our whole church.
For some reason, God has given me the ability to see and understand the playing field of church planting, but I have to work my tail off to do what other guys do in their sleep. I'm the Rudy of church planting!
But I never stop dreaming about how God can use me in ministry. And I take great comfort in knowing that he doesn't need me to brilliant to do it. I'm always inspired when I read about how long David had to live in caves after he was called as a leader.
Okay, that was an easy one. The best are yet to come...

Thanks for your transparency; I always prefer vulnerability in writing. Your last post was awesome! Can't wait for the rest of the series. We are praying for you guys.

Boy, can I relate to this one Ben. I've got to be the number one "Rudy" of church planting. Sometimes all we have to hang on to is the call.

of course, you're assuming church planting "success" is measured in numbers...

Yet another blog benefit...this one for the kingdom. It's given a voice to a guy with enough transparency to speak honest truth but genuine passion for the lost to potential planters.
