I love "young Elvis" better than "old Elvis."
And I love King Saul in his early years, before he turned evil.
Great story in 1 Samuel 11, where he has just been crowned Israel's first king. He's now royalty. But what do we find him doing? ~ "Just then Saul was returning from the fields, behind his oxen..."
He's still farming!
Then word comes that an Israeli tribe has been getting its eyes gouged-out by a barbarian horde. This angers Saul so much that he kills his oxen on the spot, cuts them into pieces, and prepares for battle! We never read of Saul farming again. From this point on, he's a warrior-king.
Our generation needs a good dose of righteous indignation. We have too many farmers and not enough warriors.
Butcher the oxen!
