Ainsley got me U2 by U2 for my birthday... which is a great read. It's amazing to me how the band's relationship with their fathers determined the course of their lives. Bono and the Edge chose nicknames, in part, to reject any ties to their overbearing dads. Bono admitted that most other people could feel normal without 70,000 fans screaming their affection for them every night. The band admits they were really, really awful until they started writing songs to fit their own abilities. [so many analogies to church planting] They called themselves 'Feedback' and then 'The Hype' before finally landing on 'U2.' [again...] And their first "concert" ~ a school talent show exposed their amazing chemistry and charisma on stage, despite being only loud, not good. At that moment, Bono knew he wanted to do nothing else in life. Some 600 odd pages to go...

sounds like a good read for the looong plane ride over to thailand! thx for the review!

Great read on so many levels. I appreciate their candor. Riveting insights for planters on not giving up when you are on the brink of serious success as well. Think of all the great songs and such that would never have been heard or happened had they quit prematurely.
