The Buzz [conference] Hangover

Final day of Buzz was exhausting. Glad to be back home with a notebook full of ideas. Here are three big ideas I got from the conference:

  1. There is nothing worse than a church being ignored [Mark Batterson].
  2. Disciples of Christ are people who are comfortable with discomfort [Ed Young].
  3. Strive to be the church on the corner, not the church on the cover [Brad Abare].

Some other interesting things I noted...

  • Ed Young Jr. does a great Joel Osteen impression.
  • NCC's staff is truly fantastic. They invited me to join them for Catalyst 3 years ago, and I still enjoy the friendships I forged with them.
  • Gary Lamb is exactly the same character in person as he is on-line. A man with no inhibitions.
  • Scott Hodge is a truly genuine and humble guy.
  • Bob Franquiz was a rock star before he was a pastor, but he's still wearing the clothes.
  • Tally Wilgis is a man of the night. He stayed at our house, but we never saw the guy. Let's hope Kristy doesn't read this.
  • Tadd Grandstaff needs a few churches to kick in more funding for his church plant.

It was also great to finally meet Brett Andrews, founder of the New Life Church movement that is spreading throughout northern Virginia... [watch out for these guys]. Also spotted Pastor Steve Brimmer and the Centrepointe Church team from a distance. They've been so good to us over the years.
